Santana, who was on a major league injury rehab assignment, allowed just two runs on three hits with three strikeouts and one walk.
After struggling in the first two innings, Santana closed out his outing by retiring ten of the last eleven batters he faced. Brad Salmon worked the final four innings and allowed no runs on one hit for his first save of the season.
The Bees trailed 2-0 when they rallied to score five runs in the third. Gary Patchett started the scoring with a sacrifice fly, and then two batters later, Freddy Sandoval put Salt Lake in front with a three-run homer off of Portland starter Cha Seung Baek, who was also on a rehab assignment from San Diego.
Brandon Wood closed out the scoring in the third with a solo shot to left. Chris Pettit singled in his final at-bat to extend his hitting streak to 17 games. Sandoval and Terry Evans each had two hits to lead the Bees' 11-hit attack, as they snapped a three-game losing streak.
